Kiama, NSW/AUS (Thursday, January 4, 2018) – The 2017 Jeep World Junior Championship has been called ON for the opening day of action. Men’s Round One will hit the water at 7:30 am local time while Women’s Round One is on standby for a possible start later today. It is set to be an amazing day of surfing with clean 2-to-3 foot (0.5-to-1 metre) waves on offer.

“We are really excited to get competition underway today,” said WSL contest director Will Hayden-Smith. “We have some super fun waves on offer this morning and it looks good to get Men’s Round One underway and hopefully Women’s Round One later today. We are all really excited to watch this event unfold and see who will come out on top at the end and become World Junior Champion for 2017.” It will be action aplenty on Day 1 with Heat 1 of the Men’s seeing Samuel Pupo (BRA) coming up against Ryland Rubens (USA) and Marco Mignot (FRA). Aussie hopeful and top seed Reef Heazlewood (AUS) will take on Momoto Tzsuki (JPN) and Theo Julitte (FRA) in Heat 6 of Round One. Women’s reigning World Junior Champion Macy Callaghan (AUS) will make her return to Kiama in Heat 3 of Women’s Round One and will take on.
